No Scent is Sweeter than Jasmine!

Jasmine, known for its delightful fragrance, is native to the Middle East and Asia, with numerous varieties to choose from. These plants thrive in warm and sunny conditions and can be enjoyed indoors as houseplants or in your garden. At 9GreenBox, we offer a wide selection of jasmine plants, including Arabian Jasmine, Brazilian Jasmine, Pink Jasmine, Night Blooming Jasmine, Maid of Orleans, Confederate, and Star Jasmine.

Placement

Jasmine plants require full, bright sun exposure throughout the day. While they can tolerate some afternoon shade, it is essential to provide ample light for optimal growth. Place them near a bright south-facing window to maximize their exposure. In regions with winter temperatures below zone 7, it is advisable to transfer the plants to pots and bring them indoors. Jasmine plants cannot tolerate temperatures below 40°F, and they thrive in temperatures ranging from 60°F to 80°F.

Soil and Pruning

To ensure healthy growth, use an organic blend of porous material, peat moss, bark, and compost. It is crucial for the soil to drain well, as jasmine plants are susceptible to root rot. Use a spacious pot that allows the plants to grow freely. For climbing jasmine varieties, provide a trellis for support. Regularly trim overgrowth to maintain the plant's upright and sturdy structure. Remove any dead or dying foliage to promote the growth of new, lush foliage.

Watering

Avoid keeping the soil of your jasmine plants soggy. Allow the top one or two inches of soil to dry before watering. However, do not let the soil completely dry out. Test the moisture level by inserting your finger into the soil. Depending on the heat, water your plants once or more per week. Ensure that water penetrates through the pot and drains out. Jasmine plants appreciate humidity, so misting the leaves or using a water tray to increase air moisture can be beneficial, particularly in dry environments caused by air conditioners and heaters.

Fertilizer

During the growing season, apply a liquid fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium every two to four weeks to promote abundant blooms. In winter, stop fertilizing and reduce watering. The plant may lose some leaves and enter a dormant phase, requiring less sunlight. With consistent and cool temperatures, jasmine plants can still bloom during winter.

Pests and Fungus

Jasmine plants are prone to infestations by whiteflies, mites, and aphids. To deter these pests, spray a soap and water solution on the leaves. If necessary, manually remove any visible bugs. To treat fungus-related issues, such as discoloration and wilted leaves, use a mixture of baking soda spray and ensure proper aeration.

JASMINE PLANT – a small shrub or vine that is widely cultivated for its stunning and sweet-scented flowers. Can also be used as a fragrant ingredient in perfumes and jasmine tea. Typically grows to a height of 1.6 to 9.8 ft. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation.

GROWING A JASMINE PLANT – Jasmine plants are easy to grow and prefer well-drained soil. Regular watering and fertilization are necessary. They thrive in full to light shade. To encourage abundant jasmine flower growth, apply phosphorus fertilizer.

TAKING CARE OF JASMINE PLANT - The most common pests for jasmine plants are whiteflies, nematodes, and mealybugs. To prevent infestations, apply neem oil to the soil.

PRUNING – Depending on the variety, shrub jasmine plants should be pruned to maintain desired size and shape. Some varieties grow slowly, while others require more frequent trimming. For vining jasmine plants, regularly use a trellis and secure weaker vines for support. Trim excess vines as needed.

The 9GreenBox Red Brazilian Jasmine, included in your purchase as a 2 pack, is proudly homegrown by 9GreenBox.
