Product Description Christmas Cactus
One of the most beautiful foliage and flowers in all cacti, the Christmas Cactus, also known as Thanksgiving or holiday cactus, is native to the tropical rainforests of southern Brazil and requires a different care routine than other desert cacti. Unlike desert cacti, it does not go dormant in the winter. Instead, it blooms vibrant flowers that emerge from long, distinctive stems draping around the plant.
Our healthy Christmas Cactus plants come directly from California to you. They are perfect, low-maintenance houseplants for any living space. Upon receiving your plant, simply open the box and position it on a well-ventilated, sunlit windowsill. Remember to water only when the soil feels dry to the touch.
POTTING AND REPOTTING
When potting, prioritize drainage with well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes. Repot the Christmas Cactus after flowering but before new shoots appear (February to March). By repotting during this time, your cactus will have plenty of time and energy to recover from any potential damage and adjust to its new home.
HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS CACTUS BLOOM
To encourage your Christmas Cactus to bloom for the Holiday season, follow these instructions: Reduce watering around October, provide 12 hours of complete darkness, reduce temperature, and once flower buds are formed, increase lighting and watering.
PROPAGATION
Christmas Cactus propagation is easy using stem cuttings. Propagation should be done after the blooming period.
CARE GUIDE
Light
During most of the year, Christmas cacti prefer bright, indirect light. They should be kept near a window with sheer curtains or on a table a few feet away from a sunny window. They are sensitive to direct sunlight and require darkness to set flower buds.
Water
Christmas cacti prefer to grow in consistently moist soil. Water deeply, but don't let the plant sit in standing water. Water only when the top 2 inches of the soil is dry to the touch. Use room-temperature water and avoid extremes in water temperature.
Temperature
Maintain a room temperature between 60°F to 70°F. In late fall, a cooler period of 50°F to 55°F can encourage the formation of flower buds.
Soil
Use a well-draining potting mix. You can also create your mix by combining potting soil with perlite or coarse sand to improve drainage. Feed your plants once a month with a diluted fertilizer solution.
